Call for Applications: Saskatchewan Craft Council Jury Sessions

Next free jury session: Spring 2021!

s10总决赛下注 members interested in receiving consultation and feedback on your work are invited to apply for Saskatchewan Craft Council‘s Annual Free Jury Sessions. They will take place over two weekends in April in both Saskatoon in Regina.聽

Applicants are juried by two senior craft artists working in the same craft media, against written standards of excellence developed by the s10总决赛下注. Being a juried member allows the artists to sell at s10总决赛下注 markets and can apply to be considered for聽s10总决赛下注 Fine Craft Boutique.

Applicants must be or become a Professional Craftsperson, Affiliated Marketer, or Student聽member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council prior to being juried.

Please note:聽The Saskatchewan Craft Council is an organization that supports fine craft artists and their work. Unfortunately we are not in a position at this time to take on any additional visual artists as new members.

Jurying Process & Criteria


  • The intent of s10总决赛下注 markets is to provide a marketplace for high quality handmade objects.
  • These criteria apply to all applications for market eligibility.
  • Issues not covered by these or media specific guidelines will be subject to the advisement of the Standards and Jurying Committee.


  1. Members holding a Professional Craftperson Membership, an Affiliated Marketer Membership or a Student Membership and whose membership fees are paid in full.
  2. Organizational Members may apply as an organization only. Please note: all members of the organization wishing to sell work within the organization/guild booth must be successfully juried as individuals.


  1. The annual jurying sessions are now held in April starting 2018 鈥 dates are announced in the s10总决赛下注 e-newsletter and posted on the s10总决赛下注 website. Individual jurying sessions are offered throughout the year provided the applicant covers s10总决赛下注 costs.   2. s10总决赛下注 will send information regarding general and media specific jurying criteria to the craftsperson upon receipt of the membership fee and/or upon request.
  3. A deadline will be set for receipt of jurying applications, and applicants will be informed of their jurying interview date within 2 weeks of the application deadline.
  4. On the jurying interview date, submitted material must include 10 samples in each medium to be juried. The applicant should submit examples of the products they wish to market.
  5. The applicant is strongly encouraged to meet with the jurors on the jurying interview date to discuss their work. Should the applicant not be able to meet with the jurors, submitted materials must be shipped and insured both ways at the applicant鈥檚 expense.
  6. All applicants will be informed verbally at the interview (or within 24 hours) as to the decision of the jurors; and in writing within one week after the jurying takes place.
  7. The decision of the Jurors is FINAL. No appeals will be accepted.


The following criteria will apply to all objects for sale at s10总决赛下注 Markets:

  1. A craft article must be: a) the original idea of the craftsperson or, b) a skillful rendering of a traditional or classic design.
  2. The use of commercial kits or molds is not acceptable.
  3. Articles that require simple assembly of commercially available parts as opposed to skillful manipulation of materials will not be accepted.
  4. Original design is expected in all products offered at s10总决赛下注 markets. Commercial patterns must be used with discretion. If used as the basis for product design in any media, this must be indicated on the jurying application form. Basic patterns must be substantially altered before the product is acceptable.
  5. Reproductions of traditional or classical designs must be labelled as such.
  6. Ready-made parts or components are permitted only if they are subordinate to聽the total design and craftsmanship of the article.
  7. A piece must show understanding of the properties and limitations of the materials as well as competent methods of construction.
  8. Articles must be skillfully finished.
  9. The level of technique involved, and the design in terms of its function, will be considered in the evaluation of the overall quality of any given piece.
  10. The object must be capable of serving the purpose for which it was designed.
  11. Objects must be well designed both technically and aesthetically. Good design requires the consideration of the elements of design (form, line, colour and texture) and the principles of design (contrast, rhythm, repetition, transition, proportion and scale). These components, and the way in which they are expressed, are integral to the design quality of the finished piece.
  12. The sale of kits prepared by the marketer is not permitted.
  13. Customers must be informed of product care and use. Warning labels or tags must accompany the product e.g “raku pottery cannot go in the dishwasher”; “This doll is not a toy and should be used for decorative purposes only”.
  14. The craftsperson is responsible for obtaining and complying with government safety and health regulations, as well as regulations regarding labelling. The s10总决赛下注 assumes no responsibility for the marketers’ compliance with government health, safety and labeling regulations.
